Duotone

21st April 2023

There was a moment during the height of the covid pandemic when I thought Barney (Duotone) might hang up his musical hat for good. But thank goodness he didn’t and that one of his first return gigs was with us. He was on top form. He’s got some new gadgets and some brand new tunes (his new album Two Moons was out the day before the concert) and he was sounding better than ever.

A nice mix of some older material but plenty of songs from Two Moons too. Barney is getting more talkative every time he performs and he shared some great insights into the writing of many of tonight’s songs, revealing just how personal and heartfelt they are.

I think we shared a recording of Martha last time he was here but this version was just so good we’ve gone with this tune again.

The best version of Martha ever?

Two Moons is only available as a download and it’s not on Spotify but you can buy it as a beautiful wooden moon calendar, with a download code on the back. Or you can go to Bandcamp (as you should for most artists) and buy it there. The link to the Duotone page on Bandcamp is here. Barney did two sets, finishing the first with a barnstorming version of Woodsmoke. He finished the second with Reappearing but had to do an encore for the sell-out crowd of die hard Duotone fanatics and newbies alike. He delighted at least two of his biggest fans with a lovely version of You Don’t Need Church.

So another triumph for Duotone. He made lots of new friends tonight and obliged by posing for a very apt ‘hat shot’.

Tonight was a treat for another reason too as our regular cook, Bev, was actually able to stay to enjoy the music for a change and so she heard first hand just what a hit her sweet potato and chick pea curry was. One punter said he’d already eaten but then was drawn back to the kitchen by the delicious smell!
